The Bloody Beetroots - I Love the Bloody Beetroots (2006)

The Bloody Beetroots is a solo project of the Italian DJ Cornelius Rifo and Tommy Tea. Their first EP "I Love the Bloody Beetroots" sounds like a ton of TNT being dropped on a razorblade factory. Merciless killer synthies and kick-ass beats in the style of Justice and late Daft Punk make this record an electronic inferno.

Strong Arm Steady - In Search of Stoney Jackson (2010)

Strong Arm Steady is a Los Angeles-based rap trio founded in the mid 90's. They initially gained fame by circulating mixtapes all over the L.A. area and didn't release their first album 'til 2005. Stoney Jackson is their second album and the first to feature a wide range of guest stars, from underground rappers to Blacksmith label boss Talib Kweli. The most notable aspect of the record is the incredible beats. SAS got the legend that is Madlib to produce the entire record, and he delivered 18 instrumentals full of magic and old soul samples.

Reverend Deadeye - The Trials and Tribulations of Reverend Deadeye (2010)

Not much is known about Reverend Deadeye except for the fact that he is an actual preacher working in a Navajo reservation somewhere in Arizona, and that he got his name because of an accident in which a snake bit him in his left eye, leaving it blind.
His music sounds like a bastard son of Tom Waits and the White Stripes; voice and riffs as muddy as the bottom of the Mississippi Delta. Never in my life have I heard anything as dirty and fucked as this whiskey-soaked excorcism of a blues record. 2 Thumbs up!

The Apples - Buzzin' About (2008)

Oh my god it's the funky shit! Tel Aviv based nine-piece ensemble The Apples fuses funk with turntablism in a quite danceable fashion. Buzzin' About - their second  record - is a 52 minute booty shakin' tour de force that culminates in a batshit insane cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name of".

Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom (1994)

In 1994 New York born poet Mike Doughty released his debut Ruby Vroom; at a time when grunge drew its last breath and the gangsta rap hype had just ignited he recorded an experimental spoken word album that would become one of the most influential records of the 1990's. On Ruby Vroom Doughty spits his laconic poetry over odd jazz samples and pulsating drumbeats and deliveres a record that - even by todays' standards -  is way ahead of its time.

Pizzicato Five - Happy End of the World (1997)

Formed in Tokyo in 1984, Pizzicato Five combine J-pop with 60's chanson, lounge and disco music to sometimes bizarre collages. Hymie's Basement - Hymie's Basement (2003)

There is only one word to describe this record. "Weird". What the Minnesota based duo does on this indie jewel could at best be labeled post songwriting. Minimalist odes to the little oddities of life accompanied by guitar, organ and turntables.

Kruder & Dorfmeister - Trans Fatty Acid Remix

The best track on the K&D Sessions and probably the best remix I've ever heard. Louise Rhodes' voice is pure sex, even more so than on the original track by Lamb. Incredible, how the groove floats through 8 and a half weightless minutes just to leave you hungry for more in the end...

Mo' Horizons - Remember Tomorrow (2001)

Remember Tomorrow, the German Nu-Jazz Duo's second record fuses jazzy samples with funky beats and bossa rhythms. The result is a perfect summer album which is best enjoyed smoking a huge blunt.
